Go Green With CIFF 2010: Check Out Burning Water

Water is what you rely on to put out a fire, but what if the water coming out of your kitchen faucet was flammable itself? The Canadian documentary Burning Water investigates a rural Alberta family’s water supply, and its unnerving ability to combust due to the surrounding area’s oil and gas industry. The film is the brainchild of writer/directors Tadzio Richards and Cameron Esler, and was inspired by Richards’ award winning article of the same name (published in Maisonneuve magazine).

Burning Water investigates a touchy subject here in Calgary, but carries a message well worth the controversy. Environmental issues are hot topics these days, especially in Alberta, so CIFF 2010 has introduced a brand new series devoted to our planet: Green Screen. Headlined by the much-anticipated documentary about northern Alberta’s oil sands, Dirty Oil, the series provides a great opportunity to be entertained and informed.

Do the activist in yourself a favor and check out Burning Water, Sunday September 26th, at 2:30PM at The Plaza. You might learn a thing or two about our province, and Mother Nature will thank you for it!
