No Heart Feelings!

The World premier of No Heart Feelings at last nights Hump Night was, to this onlooker, an exciting success. With Cast and Crew in tow, the audience at the Globe was privy to the first ever screening of this Toronto-based production.
The movie begins with a break-up. Although expected (considering the synopsis) there is always an initial bout of fear that this sort of discouraging interjection at the very start of a film will warrant a rather depressing state of affairs for the rest of the narrative. Luckily, the characters allowed for a more playful identification of the conclusion of relationship with hearty bouts of friendship and drinking (always the best choice). Inebriated, and cycling, Melanie ‘rides’ on to a new chapter of her life, with friends, beer, and the incredibly amusing yet horrifyingly awkward Lewis.
The intimate nature and down-to-earth persona's of each of the characters merit a wholeheartedly convincing story about the life and (at some times trying) times of a single woman living in Toronto. The script was heavily improvised throughout filming which enables the true profundity of each actors humor, style, and philosophical statements about love, dating, relationships, and sex to be easily believable and absolutely hilarious. The one-liners that main characters throw down throughout the film had the theatre doubled over in riotous laughter. I enjoyed Ron Sexsmith’s line in his cameo (sadly, I must paraphrase): “Yea, but cute is the new annoying”. Perfect!
Furthermore, any lover of Toronto will enjoy seeing the city cast in its own light, almost, as the talk back after the show discussed, as a background character in the film as opposed to merely a setting upon which the acts are played. There is a heavy commitment placed on viewing the city in its true, urban settings, rather that as an indescribable melting-pot of different settings and locations.
In all, if one is desperately searching for a light-hearted yet heavily amusing film, I hope you will be able to see this one in your future days. The crew are still in ‘cahoots’ with companies about possible release dates or viewing opportunities, but I do hope that there will definitely be a time at which you can see this film and love it as much as I do.

No Heart Feelings!

I think what sparked my interest in this film was the line in the program, “Her break-up throws her easy life into mild existential crisis”. With an attraction to the philosophical entanglement of love and loss, I pursued further and realized the definite genius behind this film. When the main character, 29 year-old Melanie, breaks up with her long-distance boyfriend, and with the help of the sassy-cyclist-enthusiast Lewis, Melanie and viewers alike become savvy to the jovial events that life, love, and a summer spent bicycling can obtain.

Whilst researching further (I use the term researching lightly as facebook merits no truly scholarly source), I found that this film was largely improvised, intimately shot, and honestly adapted from the script written by Sarah Lazarovic, Geoff Morrison, Ryan J. Noth, and Luke Byrant. Furthermore, the Directors Geoff Morrisson & Sarah Lazarovic will be in attendance for this world premier of the film.

This Canadian film circumvents the normative break-up/make-up ideals of larger Hollywood productions as the affectionate narrative and small cast garner an incredible intimate community feeling in the film. With the ‘gang of young, witty friends’, including an appearance by Ron Sexsmith, the characters narrate the viewers through pain, angst, essence, and freedoms, all cast in the pseudo-urban-chic lifestyle of city cycling.
